Explore Bluestone National Scenic River

Date: 4 July 2010
Details:

The trail between Pipestem Resort State Park and Bluestone State Park was known as the Bluestone Turnpike. This beautiful 9-mile trail used by American Indians, early settlers and Mary Draper Ingles, a captive of the Shawnee Indians, will lead you past the remains of homesteads and the former townsite of Lilly on its path along the Bluestone River. Join a ranger Sunday morning at the bottom of the aerial tram at Pipestem Resort State Park to hike the Bluestone National Scenic River to see and hear more of this special area and its history. Take advantage of this great opportunity to explore a very beautiful and remote area without having to arrange your own shuttle. The hike ends at Bluestone State Park and a shuttle will be provided for the return trip to Pipestem. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, a lunch and plenty of water.

Check out the other ranger-led programs being offered at your national parks. All programs are free-of-charge and everyone is welcome.
